The Web Palette

When creating your own graphics for use on the web, consider using colours from the Web Palette. These 216 colours will display accurately on both Mac and PC platforms without dithering, so you can be sure about how your images will look on the majority of web platforms. The palette consists of six shades of each primary colour and each shade consists of a combination of only six possible colour values.

There can still be problems blending graphics into an existing background if the visitor is using a 16bit display. Even with identical colour values in the two graphics, a seam can show under certain conditions. To avoid the problem, use a transparent edge to the graphic.
